Digital advertising for a footwork-inflected club night

Intentions

The poster was designed to advertise an electronic music night in Salford on the internet and social media, so the goal was to capture eyes, generate interest, and ultimately sell tickets. The design also attempted to embody the feeling of listening to the music that would be played on the night.

Execution

Footwork and related genres were on the menu for the night, and this frenetic form of music warranted something vibrant, technical and overwhelming. Footwork often features quite a robotic sound, with drums that sound very much like a drum machine rather than a human drummer. Lots of vocal and instrumental samples are used, however, so it’s a style that embodies something very human and something very cold at once. This poster attempted to do the same, with a giant grey robot superimposed on a shifting neon background. I downloaded a 3D model of a robot and rendered it in Cinema 4D, overlaying text in a way that allowed both text and image to be as large as possible. The combination of the rainbow colours, the authoritative text and the monumental robot created a poster that drew the eye effectively.
